Why you shouldn't make New Year's Resolutions

 It's a new year, and everyone you speak to, and everywhere you look you will see them;

   New Year's Resolutions

and they all consist of pretty much the same thing, lose weight, eat better, save money ect ect, and every one of them will be forgotten by February, so why do people do it every new year? I think there is something about the start of a new year that makes people want to better themselves, it has been drilled into us that the new year is a new start and sometimes it really does feel like that, but is it really?

As I've grown older I've realised that it really isn't. If you want to change you can literally start anytime you don't need to wait until a new year, month or even week to start making the changes you want to implement in your life. So don't wait for January to make those changes. Set yourself some goals and start now.

Now this is where I started asking myself how can I set goals for myself that are actually achievable? So I went to my best electronic friend Google and typed that in to the search bar, and there was the answer on every single page I clicked on, SMART goals.

What are SMART goals?

SMART stands for specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound. You can find out more about SMART goals here - SMART goals

Setting yourself SMART goals means that they are easier to track and you are more likely to be able to achieve them. One of my favourite things about SMART goals is that they are time bound. I tend to check in with my goals on a monthly basis.

Setting realistic goals is so important. I used to set goals, fall behind where i wanted to be and give up completely. Now I set myself goals that are achievable with my lifestyle and yet still push me.

What are some ways to track your progress towards achieving your goals?

There are lots of ways to track progress, my favourite is using a bullet journal spread called a habit tracker. I look at my goal, decide when I  would like to get to certain points and look at how much i need to do each day, then I set myself a daily target on my habit tracker. You can learn more about this here -Habit Tracker

So do you set new years resolutions? Or will you be trying to set some SMART goals this new year?
